Château Lacanaud is one of the most beautiful estates in the South West of France, set within the picturesque countryside of the Dordogne

We began our story by leaving the UK and living on a boat for 2 years, eventually dropping anchor in Antibes, France.
After a year and a half in the exquisite village of Bonnieux in Provence—where we hosted our fabulous wedding with our beautiful family and friends—we envisioned our new dream. We sought to curate a historic Château as a private holiday venue, set within one of France’s most prestigious wine regions.
We combined our greatest passions—historic architecture and fine interiors—to create an exclusive sanctuary for luxury weddings and private holidays. It is a mission that has truly fulfilled our dream, and one we are honored to share with you.

Some History
Built in the 19th century, Château de Lacanaud was the vision of Pierre Théophile Delbetz, a local doctor and spirited politician known for his radical ideals. Originally recorded as “La Canais”—a name likely derived from the region’s Occitan dialect—the estate passed to his daughter, Anne-Marthe Amélie, preserving a legacy that has endured for generations.
Architecturally, the Château is a stunning example of a traditional Chartreuse. Defined by its elegant central façade, steep tiled roof, and striking mansard windows, the structure is flanked by two imposing pavilion wings that blend utility with grandeur. Today, the Château stands as a testament to timeless elegance, having been meticulously restored to marry its authentic historical charm with the contemporary luxury of the Dordogne.
The Coach House
The Coach House was a ruin, from mud floor to rotten roof. It was the perfect blank canvas where only the walls were kept.
The Grounds
While the central garden was originally designed ‘à la Française’, the wider park has always been spectacular, boasting generations of mature trees. Converting the formal garden to a ‘Jardin Anglais’ took painstaking work, but the results are worth it. Thanks to a modern irrigation system, we enjoy a lush green lawn year-round, bordered by colorful planting and the wildlife it attracts.
